I don't see anywhere that the painter signed it. Is there a trick to finding it somewhere hidden?? The frame itself is very heavy.. 9BF69F80-D9FF-47FA-93F5-F78E8704BC9F.jpeg D176233F-63EE-4565-883F-BFD3860FF78B.jpeg CDFB00F5-8B80-4350-A5B2-B06983D72759.jpeg 51E7963C-3E9E-4792-905A-D8CFB235FF8F.jpeg

How did you change the direction?? When I post it, it is right side up but then when I post full image it changes direction on me..

There might be a signature under the frame. But the gallery is still in business. Why don't you start by contacting them? As they're no longer at that address, they should be able to give you a rough time-frame just based on that.

IMO part of a larger work.

Judging from the back, quite possible this is a rectangular painting which has been fitted to an oval frame.

I should add pre-1963 -- no surprise -- based on lack of 5-digit zip code.

A little Colonial courting scene and rather charming. A very attractive frame as well.

I did see they are still in business. Maybe I will email them the picture and ask.. I have two of them. I only posted one. Maybe the artist only signed the other one. I'll check.

you took the picture with an Apple device, Apple devices only play well with other Apple devices.

Are you posting pictures directly off your phone? If that is the case your phone is probably showing them as you expect them to be but when posting they are actually showing how you had the phone positioned when you took them (horizontal or vertical).

When I 'straighten' pics for people, I download them to my PC, then I right click on them & use the rotate clockwise/counterclockwise to change them.

I see that blooey has also made a good suggestion. ;)

Thanks... I'll post them from iPad and then hopefully can change direction from the PC ...

Just for future reference (and meant in the most helpful way)... If you have a pair of something, do be kind enough to post both at same time. The more information we have, the more helpful we can be. That's why I, for one, really really appreciate your in-focus close-up photograph of the gallery's label.

Ok , I will.. so if I have another picture can I post on this same thread or do I need to create one for each picture??

If it's another that makes a pair, yes. If it's another painting, you'll get better results with a new thread with a descriptive title.

I think a language of fans may help read them. This one is from Sotheby's but a bit later, 19th rather than 18th century.

oh gosh!! I'm gonna print this out and attach it to the back of my picture. My daughter-in-law law will love this!! So it's almost like the two pictures tell a story..
