I just found a Sparton AC Receiver. Quite a beautiful device.

Mine is the Sparton AC Receiver Radio Model 589-A. It is the upright one with the ornate round grill and woodwork within it, with the dials and more ornate fixtures below.

People now collect many electric devices starting in the late 19th Century. Maybe we should have a forum for them?

I like that idea...Electrical better than electronic, which has an altogether modern tone to it. Perhaps 'and Small Appliances'?
My hoard has a good number of such antiquities, to include control devices (switches, thermostats), small motors, lamps, industrial oddities & etc.
Perhaps if enough folks chime in here about this, a Moderator will pass the concept up to the pertinent decision-makers for further review & discussion?

Something like adding an additional forum is a matter for the administrator not moderators. And if past is prologue, it ain't happening easily, if at all.

    Ditto.
There have been requests for actual antiques forums that were a no go.

I know there already are many internet forums on vintage radios, tuners, loudspeaker systems etc, even specialised for collectors of specific brands. Anyone can join those if they want to share or find out more.

It's also a can of worms nobody wants to open on the web development side of things.

I've done web development. Copying a section of a template that's used in all the other forums might be easy, depending on the code.

It might just be cut and paste.

Don't worry, you cannot feel old around a 1930s Radio??? It should make you feel way ahead of the game, lol.

Those are electronics in those old things. Technically, I believe electronics goes back even before 1930s.

Electric just means usually something very simple, like a light or a fan, a radio has tubes, etc. and so those things are electronic.

The electron was discovered in 1897, and in the same year the vacuum diode was invented. Obviously tubes/valves weren't widely used at the time, that took a while.
I have several tube amplifiers, including one my husband built and one we tweaked together. We were regularly searching for specific tubes, and often did so through specialised forums. Those forums are out there.

    Electric, but not electronic.;)
Electricity has been around for a long time. Electronics are a different kettle of fish.

No.....as we get a whole range of items that don't have a proper forum......and a ton of others that have the right forum and still get thrown up in the general forums..

Besides, electronics collectors look for electronics forums, not for antiques forums. As I said, there are plenty out there, even specialised ones.

We can't have forums on everything, what's next, flower arranging? A beautiful art, but not on Antiquers. The same with electronics, fascinating, but not on Antiquers.

We could though.....have a vintage forum, as a catch all for anything 1970 and later....
just to keep the riffraff out of the antiques......:playful::playful::playful::hungry::hungry::eek:

Reddit has antique and vintage forums but everyone under 30 thinks everything they find that’s slightly before they were born is antique and uses that one :arghh:

It will all be posted on the antiques forums anyway.:banghead: ("It was my grandmother's, so it is antique.")
That is a huge problem. We get some of them here as well, but thankfully we also get real antiques.

I am a member of a Dutch antiques forum where anything that wasn't antique or could be mistaken for antique (imitation, fake) was deleted. I haven't logged in for a few years, but I assume it is still the same.
