I found this in a storage unit my mom asked me to empty out for her so she could stop paying the rent on it. It's been sitting in there for over 20 years! She doesn't remember where she got it & I've tried to make out the signature to get an idea but it is too worn. So I put it away and recently came across it again & wondered where it was from again - but this time I knew about this board!
Is this Mayan? Aztec? I have a a early piece of sexually explicit blackware Moche
pottery from Peru tribe and it looks like the people on it; Could it be Peruvian?
    Thank you for any help

if that's a copyright on it , it ain't early anything.

& I'm not seeing anything that points to any one culture specifically ....

    Early to Classic Copyright culture?:hilarious:

    Journey, what is the material?
It looks like some kind of recent art inspired by Zapotec-Mixtec-Aztec.

It's made of stone & it is HEAVY! Here are photos of it outside in sunlight where you can see it better than my flash.
I thought it was a copyright symbol at first too, but a closer look made me think it was a G?

I may be wrong - it is definitely some type of stone, but the heavy weight of it may be the base,
    Thanks for any help/ideas

Maybe bronze or another cast metal.
This is a contemporary sculpture, probably from Mexico, but artists inspired by pre-Columbian art can be found elsewhere as well.
I tried to edit the signature/mark, but it is still impossible to read. It is best to find a gallery specialized in contemporary Mexican art, maybe they recognize the style or the mark.

Would someone copyright a statue? Does that mean there are other copies of it?
    Thanks again for the help

Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution.

it's got nothing to do with copies.
if there were copies of an original...they would be numbered.

Nice piece, the face looks more Peruvian than Mexican but that doesn't mean anything because the head gear looks Mexican/Aztec. Odd, may be a copy of a pre-columbian piece or a free form college art piece. I know nothing about pre-columbian art pieces. The copyright is questionable, meaning the artist could have placed that on his work but never truly paid to have it copyrighted.
