Featured Mattel Hot Wheels Cars

Thanks for viewing. I’m trying to find out more about these Mattel Hot Wheels from about 88-91 or so. It seems like it was a bulk order for either giveaways or maybe colour test? I’ve never seen them packaged this way and with little cards that say the safety warnings and 1991 El Segundo Mattel etc as pictured.

 

Possibly a give-away to be included in something like a McDonald's Happy Meals.

 

Interesting. Don't appear packaged for direct sale to consumers. But I'd expect branded if distributed by McDonald's.

These are different variations that I think you can purchase normally packed tho? The colors I have seem harder to find.

i believe your right! From this series, but now why the package change from being included with the VHS?

 

You mean why weren't they packaged on branded cards? Cost. And the need to differentiate them from product sold at retail. (Notice they don't carry UPCs? That tells you right away they weren't intended for individual sale.)

even if it were the VW with the surf board.....if he had hundreds......after the first 20...the price would drop like a lead weight !

The first dozen or so would bring good money but then, when collectors realize they are no longer "hard to find", the price may drop.
