Seller called material bone but I doubt it like heck. Antler or horn? Smoother front than back which has some somewhat align (along the length of the links) shallow "worm trails", perhaps a type of pore or growth mark? Tones vary from mostly dark brown on front to lighter brown or yellow on the back.

Silver tests as at least sterling. I would call the center ornament a faux monogram as it reads the same from either side. Interesting hook/snap clasp.

Any ideas as to age, origin or type of carved material? Thank you!

Horn of some kind, I’d say.

Hmm, I don't think it's bone as I believe that has visible small holes or pores that go into the surface. I'd have many pieces of bone jewelry and the surface luster of this piece seems different. The outside surfaces of the links are smooth with no texture but the undersides have some very thin surface lines, irregular and curvy, like they were done with a very fine electric engraving pen. Maybe I'll have to try an ultra close-up. Thank you all for your ideas.

    Any suggestions on age?

Cool piece - I'd guess vegetable ivory/tagua/coquilla/corozo/whatever you want to call it - has micropores and can form small surface cracks...

Maybe! The back surface has squiggly lines, not individual holes or pores, no cracks. I'm confused but I'll try more research. Thanks @DragonflyWink
