So I bought two plates for $1 each at a yard sale today. I went home and was about to wash them when I saw a little sticker that said, “Mason’s c. 1900 - $38” on one of the plates and some glue reminents on the other. I immediately googled it and saw various prices for similar plates on the Internet. I also looked up how to clean them and used warm water, vinegar, and salt to get out the brown stains on them. I didn’t use any soap or hot water. I did notice that one of the plates had crazing on it but the other didn’t.

I’m just looking for a possible estimate on the value of the plates? And also some further instructions for proper care? I don’t want to sell them (I bought them because I love the colors and design), but I do want to know the actual value of the plates.

Look at ebay sold listings for a Nabob plate. One sold for about $20 but I didn't read to see what condition. The plate has survived this long; just no dishwasher and no bleach. A peroxide soak is best for staining.

On this chinaware site it’s being sold for like $34. I thought prices were reduced on eBay a bit and that was part of the appeal?

That $34 would be their asking price, but if it's still for sale, they're not getting it. The value is only what someone is willing to pay.

Don't worry about using hot water and dishwashing liquid: these were made at a time when maids scrubbed them with lye!
