Mary And Baby Jesus Oleograph

Posted before on Ebay. It is a print on canvas. I am trying to find who did the original art. There has to be a painting, etching or other that it was made after. Google images does not help.

Yours might be a copy of this. More likely, they are both from the same prototype (which I haven't found).

 

One's knee-jerk reaction is that it is Mary and Jesus -- but neither has a halo. Nor does the version moreotherstuff found. I have seen this before, and there is another, extremely popular, painting that is always considered a Madonna and child, but isn't either. Shows up in the nunnery all the time though.

 

It has the feel of C. Bosseron Chambers to it, might be a direction to look...

 

It does rather, but Chambers' Madonna has a strong jawline and a slightly tip-tilted nose in all his paintings of her.

(BTW, the other painting to which I referred is sometimes known as the Madonna of the Street. There are several versions of it on eBay at the moment. )

Yes, There is a halo over Mary very much like Chambers, a circular line and a "brightness"? around the child? I know this print, just not recalling it yet! I REALLY like it prob not Chambers, his children were more..cherubic, but has a similar feel as his Madonna of the Immaculate Heart but even darker. Mary looks to be very young 14 or so in this image. I have seen this before it is starting to bug me LOL!
What are the measurements of this print?

 

I see the faint halo around Mary but not the baby.

 

It is about 13 1/2" x 27" visible area. Correct, no halo around the baby's head.
Found another painting? with similar image. But the one from the Moreotherstuff link has better resemblance to mine.

Kardinalisimo your linked image is by the artist William Bouguereau, His paintings are well known, I do not think yours is by him but you may want to do a search...

 

Is it possible to get a better photo of her face and an overall image? The glare on your photo makes it difficult to see her face clearly, which would be of great help in identifying the artist and for comparison of other images and it is hard to see the background as well as what the baby Jesus is holding.

 

I think you're right that the one in the link is probably also a copy.
