Hi, this serving spoon is about 8 1/2 inches long. The only mark is a stamped makers mark that looks like 2 tools crossed with a B or an R underneath. Does anyone recognize the mark? I've looked through the Bs and Rs in Kovels American Silver Marks, and on the US section of the 925 website.

Also, any thoughts as to metal content? I did a scratch test with 18K acid and got the milky white result that indicates sterling, but I know this result can also come from heavily plated items.

    Thanks! kings1.JPG

Plated. Your test only got the surface.

Thanks Bakers. Can you tell me how you know, or is it something you just know from experience.

Krider & Biddle, Philadelphia, circa 1860s, have seen in their 'Kings' in sterling but lacking a quality mark, yours is likely coin...

Good job! I didn't see that top letter as a K!
