Featured Maritime oil on canvas, Dugan

Recently purchased, oil on canvas 15x30 inch, signed 'Dugan '92' (1992). Done in the Antonio Jacobsen style. Couldn't find anything on this artist ?

Very nice Drew.....nice size !!!! ... the depth and gravitas and the appearance of grandeur ... make it look even bigger !!!

The siggy looks like 1992....but the work looks like 1892 !

I'm just not sure the stack smoke and flag....are pointing in the proper direction............but as u see I've been staring at it for a while now !!@!

 

The interesting thing about this picture is that it depicts a mid 19th C 'transitional' steam ship, when sails were still used to some extent to help out the coal hungry engine.

The sails are set for artistic effect rather than propulsion, according to the apparent wind direction. This is most typical of a relatively modern picture.
