Hi all, was just curious on the time frame of this piece. I couldn't find any marking on it except on bottom of one of the drawers "no 285 desk mahogany". Does the 285 stamp have any significant for id'ing? Its in pretty rough condition is there any value in this desk? Thanks.

Is there a small shelf on the backside of the desk?
I have one that I can date to the 1920s from family photos. Mine has a leather top, with the shelf on the backside.
The hardware, although not the same is very close to what is on mine.

So my guess would be that your desk was probably made from the 1920s-1960s.
If in good condition, with prices the way they are, I would guess the price to be in the $2-300 range. In the condition it is in, maybe $40-50 on a lucky day.

    Again wait for other comments.

    Hi,
I would love to refinish that desk. In that condition around here perhaps 10 bucks.
Egads I am getting so old.

Ok thanks I kept get an error about the size of the photo when trying to upload. I will add a few more.

As suggested, made for a lot of years. The number is just a model number used by the company that made it. This would be priced about $30.00 at the thrift store in this condition around here (semi-rural Midwest). Fixed up and in a shop, maybe $150.00. Value is really dependent on location and selling venue. Large cities would do better than us here. Also, formal mahogany furniture tends to do better in the Southeast.
