    hifolks

been digging out old stuff i havent got round to selling, because of damage, framing etc.

forgot about these. think i posted before, but have repaired some paint loss etc, and never really got any solid info on them, would like more eyes on them

removed the old glass, so easier to see now as well

they seem to be nicely over painted photos i think

    signed in bottom corner

    large for photos 13 inches

any help or info would be very helpful

think somebody suggested last time they might be theatre costumes

I'd think they were meant to be biblical figures.

image search has changed everything now. im certainly going to be tight lipped about item costs, etc from now on

as i use the same photos for ebay, buyers only have to left click for image search and the pictures will come straight up on antiquers telling how much i paid for them in a charity shop :muted::facepalm:

I agree that they are intended to look "Biblical". The jars probably indicate that the woman would be fetching water from a well, a common task for women. With the crook, the man is associated with the role of a shepherd, although his costume looks wealthier than a typical shepherd. They may be related to the story of Moses and Zipporah, where Moses helps the daughters of Reuel/Jethro water their flock. He is rewarded with Zipporah as his wife. Perhaps from a theater play.

They could also be Rachel and Jacob, a very popular story.

I'm for Rebekah, who met Eliezer when she went to the well to draw water & got drafted to be Isaac's wife, and for David, the shepherd who took on Goliath & eventually became king. They look to me like the sort of things that were in Sunday school rooms and children's bedrooms.

Have you opened them up? If specific characters, I would expect that to be written somewhere. Just as likely a "people of the bible lands" sort of thing.

    Could be hand tinted photos.
