We found this lamp. Yes, found.

Near our waste area in our building. Clearly, someone who didn't want to figure it out didn't want to bother having the other swan handle attached or having the socket redone.
Luckily I have remade several sockets on several lamps and I knew I'd find the screws that hold the other swan handle inside the vase and sure enough, they were rattling around in there. There are still two washers in there that I can't get out.

So.. the question, given that this is intact and in fantastic shape

    1. What do you call the metal ring that goes around the socket and bulb that holds the lampshade in place, because I'll need one of those.

    2. Any thoughts about how to take this thing apart to get out those two washers rolling around inside?

    3. How would the other handle get rescrewed back into place without access to the inside?
And finally if anyone can identify it in any way? Style and decade? I'm think French Empire style mid-century? Plastic power plug suggests 1950s or newer, right?

    Thank you!

    These folks think 1950s too.

    Seems about right.

    1. The metal thing is called a "harp".

    2. & 3. You will need to disassemble the lamp in order to but it back together. The bottom of the lamp may just have a cardboard covering that hides a fastener.

Depending on your skill, you too may place it on the curb.

Ok, but someone somehow attached those washers and tightened the two nuts I found, right? That couldn't have been done before making the ceramic part. Does anyone know how these things come safely apart without damaging the lamp?

If you remove the socket and the knurled capture nut, the riser tube and cap looks like it will slide right up and out.

The threaded rod goes all the way through to the base, and as Roaring said, there will be a piece of cardboard covering the retaining nut. The whole thing may separate once you have the top parts off.

Tough to get a perspective on size, but once you have it torn apart, you can assess how small of a hand, or long of fingers it would take to reach the studs on the swan ornaments.

In lieu of not being able the thread the nuts on, you could get some Gorilla Glue and put a few small dots on there to secure it. Looks like there is enough room to hide the glue.

I would not advise lifting the thing up by the swans afterward ;)

I'd take a crack at that, hopefully without cracking anything. It doesn't look like an impossible task.
