Little stone carved face pendant from Alaska

he is 2 1/2" long and 1 1/2" wide. I think soapstone?
I can't make out the writing above Alaska. Maybe a name?
Any information will be appreciated. thanks in advance.

I can't make it out either; it does definitely look like soapstone, but stylistically does not look like any kind of native work that I am familiar with.

 

It looks like someone took an unsigned Chinese or Mexican soapstone pendant, and inscribed it with an illegible "signature" and "Alaska."

I agree, it doesn't look like anything I'm familiar with, either, although the nose and eyes do resemble those on some Greenland Inuit tupilaks.

But those are usually made from ivory or antler, and wouldn't be signed "Alaska."

Yes..maybe it is a Inuit soapstone mask pendant

 

Depicting one of the various cultural (or humanoid) masks or at least a variation of one
