She is broken, so it's of little consequence, but I have always wondered.

Just 1 1/2" high - legs and arms missing (it's from a dig somewhere).

I would say black because the color is clearly confined to the skin areas.

Yep, definitely china, not lead, and I also thought it was just on the skin.:)
She/he was in a box of junk at the Flea a bunch of years ago, and I just could not leave it there. Poor ikkle thing.
In fact, all my little china dolls are borked in some way.
    I am a sucker. :woot:

I've seen a lot of Frozen Charlotte dolls, both black and white, but never saw one sitting. With the arms out I wonder if she was in a high chair or pram.

Bev, I hadn't thought of that, but it would make sense.

I wonder if this would qualify as a male version of a "Frozen Charlotte" doll. I believe the male version was called a "Frozen Charlie." according to the following Wikipedia. They came "in white, pink-tinted, or, more rarely, painted black. Some rare examples have moulded chemises. Male dolls (identified by their boyish hairstyles) are called Frozen Charlies." The only thing that makes me doubt it would be considered a "Frozen Charlotte or Charlie" is that it is in a seated position. I think??? they are all standing??? I have a girl one that was my grandmother's dating to the early 1880s.

I love the tiny Frozen Charlottes. I just splurged on one that was 1" tall with painted features and blonde hair. I dressed her and put her inside a pocketwatch case. I have 2 more that are standing on little dollhouse wall brackets inside an oval deep frame. I'll post pictures later but right now the dog is eyeing my dinner and I don't dare get up and leave it. lol

I had a cat that eyed my dinner all the time. He even ate unattended scallions. 008 (7) (600x800).jpg

    Interesting stuff!
It looks like even though he is broken, I still did ok with the few cents I paid for him.

Bev, when I was a kid, we had a cat that would walk across pork chops to get to the tomatoes or peas!

There is no explaining it! My fur friend loves fruit yogurt, olive juice, pink daisies and mayonnaise. ??!!

Hey, did we just hijack a Frozen Charlotte thread to talk about cats? We bad.

I had a cat that used to lap martinis if I left them on the coffee table. I never thought about it being the olive juice.

Might not have been the olives - My cat, Mu, used to beg for a lick or two of my scotch.
