Featured little carved monkey

hi folks

something i found in a local antique shop today

bought as resin and probably is because of the scratched lines to the feet.

but still found him(or her) quite lovely

im hoping its some kind of carved plastic at least, and maybe older than modern

wee little thing

any thoughts appreciated

Resin. They're cranking them out in China. Could have been made last week. I know of no way to date it, other than after the advent of this type of polymer.

Very cute. There is interest in these quality resin okimono and netsuke repros, the prices they fetch is surprising sometimes.

I actually prefer these resin pieces over the fake new ivory 'netsuke'. Not only because of the material, but also because they have far more charm and character than the intentional fakes, which have been made by people who have no connection to the culture netsuke were made in.
