I've figured out that this is Lindshammar glass/crystal - about 6 1/4" high - but google translate isn't really making sense of the inscription (assuming it's swedish). So - figured it was a good time to call on AJ's (@Any Jewelry ) translation squad :) That being said - @Fredrik Lislebø - can you assist? My guess is this is an inscription to someone on their birthday, or anniversary of some sort - I've managed to make out I think the word "happiness" and "50 years". Outside of that - not much. Here's the inscription as far as I've been able to transcribe it:

    SIGRUN TRYGGVADOTTIR
    HAMINGJU ÅSKER
    MED 50 ÅRS - DAGINN 4 FEB 1984
    TRYGGVI BEGGA DORA JULIA

SIGRUN TRYGGVADOTTIR appears to female Icelandic,Tryggvi is a male name.

Looked at it again......Tryggvi appears to be the father's name.

  4. Yes. It is Icelandic. SIGRUN TRYGGVADOTTIR is a female name. Trygvadottir means daughter of trygva(son) A gift for her 50 year birthday. It is also a sculpture of an icelandic horse.

Here's your reminiscence for the day:

There used to be hard candies that looked like the OP's horse. They were about half the size, and came in all kinds of animal shapes. They were mostly red and green and yellow, and meant to represent the animals in a creche: camels, horses, sheep, etc. What I remember Most about them is that they took forever to lick to nothing, and they were the stickiest candies in the world. One had to put them down occasionally - either to wash one's hands, or to eat dinner, and when one picked them up again, the napkin, or book, or dinner plate came along with it.

Those are gummies. Aren't they cute! Mine were plain old hard candy. (The gummie wasn't even a gleam in his mother's eye!)

Hello Fredrik! I have a question for you.........that the dalahest is actually a replica of the Icelandic horse?

I actually just rode one of these horses when I was in Iceland just about a week ago.

I have not found any reference to the dalahest being a replica of the Icelandic horse.

Only that the (a) horse came to Sweden 4000 years ago. No mention of Icelandic in the reference.

At the Laxnes Farm where we visited and took a 2 hr. tour on horseback (rough terrain for me, a complete novice) I learned that the Iceland horse is still a pure breed. No other horses are allowed in Iceland, and if by chance one is taken out of the Country, it is not allowed back in.

I ask only for my own knowledge, because if it is true, then I just learned my something new for the day!!

    Thank you in advance.:cat:
