Featured Lil old penmanship/cursive help

Nice old print I acquired. Presented to…First Officer McCoudrey??? Can’t make out the name.

 

Looks like McCoudrey to me. Maybe @springfld.arsenal knows a source where you could access the ship's compliment on the off chance...

Thanks I hadn’t seen that page. In a quick search I couldn’t find much on the crew for the voyage to Ireland. Any Jamestown crew really. Glad I’m not the only one that sees the name the name that way. I’ve imagined it several ways but recently settled here.

Mr. rather than Mc is a definite possibility I’d considered.

 

I think it's McCoudrey or some variant of that. It looks more like "Mc" than "Mr". So it's "First Officer McC---drey".

Seems that this print was presented at least to the officers on board (Forbes also got a copy). Don't know about the spelling, but it's not difficult to imagine different people writing the name differently, especially if one knows the person and another simply hears the name.

 

Here's a F.W. Macondray. Not sure he's the perfect fit.

Debora, you beauty you! Helluva researcher. I’m impressed and thankful.

What a life this fella Macon… had! Into service aboard an international ship a boy by age ten. Imagine kids today. I mean we are lucky to have grown up in the second half of the 20th century most of us, for the most part. Easier than people of low station had it ever in history. Maybe it was better then though? A man by age 13. He did more before he had hair on his balls than most kids these days will do by the time they have no hair left on their heads.

Imagine the treasures he had in his home! A leader in the China trade. Good god he must have had some amazing things. I’d like to just see his horticultural medals! That would be impressive enough, never mind the Chinese pieces. I may have to go see his MA home some day. I was planning to sell this print but I’m so fascinated by his life now it might be another thing I have to hold onto. As if the story of the Jamestown wasn’t good enough, this guys story might be better.
