I picked up this vintage print because I like the image, thought it had good age, and the price was right. Not even sure of the medium. It looks quite a bit like a serigraph, though the positioning of the color blocks is more precise than you usually see and the ink edge bleed is minimal in comparison to most serigraphs. The signature is just odd. Overall size without the frame is 23" x 29". Says Printed in USA at lower right. Any ideas?

It just hit me that this is Lyonel Feininger and was able to confirm .......

Any idea what the second word is?

Found a couple examples that sold at auction. Both said it is a lithograph. One sold for $100.00 and the other for $850.00 (against an auction estimate of 1-2K). They are transcribing the second word as Tukscgelschoren but I can find no translation for such. Is it Dutch? Looks like the last letter is an A to me ..... ????

I was thinking the letters in the second word look like Tukscegelschorna, but that is found nowhere!

After the first 3 letters it reads segel schoner, sail schooner.

Thanks. This is beginning to make some sense. The first three letters look to be TUK. I find no German translation but in Czech it means FAT. Hard saying what was intended there.

The title is actually "Toppsegelschoner"; German for "top-sail schooner". Feininger also did one named "Toppsegelketschen" ("top-sail ketch").

It is indeed a serigraph, and was printed in an open edition.

It's great that somebody had a response after all of this time. Welcome to the forums, RCH!
