I have this last supper wood carving I'd like to get more information about. I'd like to get a time frame of how old it could be, what type of wood and where it could be from. I can't find any stamps/markings. It measures about 18" wide, 7" tall and 6" in depth. Thanks for any help :)

    Ya....that's kinda ....WOW !!!

The last supper was 1 B.C......but i think this carving is much later....

The bottom slab looks like pine but the stools look like a hard wood.....maybe maple.....& with the great definition in the clothes and faces I'd call for a hard wood there also....

    Need clear close ups !

Lisa, I'll admit you really sent my curiosity on a trip. Running across everything including pictures of those being hand made in Israeli workshops. Last Suppers of your size and three dimensional appear to run from $400 +- to, for one more elaborate, over $7,000. Might be olive wood. Can you ID a scent on yours?

Bottom line, yours is not antique but guaranteed - by me - to definitely qualify as "vintage."

But that could be Ca 1998. ;)
In any event you introduced at least three of us to an attractive and heretofore unknown item.
    Thank you.

Sorry, Greg, almost forgot. Don't give them our secret methods, but you were certainly closest with your intuition. Just across the little pond!

It reminds me of some of the ANRI carvings.

I'm pretty sure it could be German/Austrian or Swiss. I looked a bit around and found two similar carvings of the "Last supper". They are both carved out of Linden wood (I hope that is the right translation, otherwise let me know, please).

    Here are the links:
http://www.herrgottschnitzer.de/abendmahl/374/14/28 (This is a German Woodcarver and they make it to order)

http://m.ebay.de/itm/141617309546?_mwBanner=1 (The seller suggests that it is Austrian and from before the 20th Century)

Obviously they are not the same, but just to give you an idea. If you need help with translating, let me know.

    Stanzerl, very good finds.
I read the factory part OK, but couldn't get an idea of pricing. The eBay one is in Germany and says item maybe from Austria. The factory one says in Bavaria. Are they two different ones?
JFTHOI - Did you check Pinocchio on the factory site? Very good workmanship but first time I ever saw an intentional sexy, provocative looking Pinocchio.:joyful:

Thanks, OldGuy! Yes they are different ones. The one in Bavaria is just a sample. They custom make them when someone orders one. I guess that's why they don't put a price on their page, so people have to contact them.

Thanks for the finds Stranzerl! These do look quite similar. After look up Linden wood, it looks like you are correct. I'm pretty sure that's it. Thanks!!!! Sorry for the late response, as I was out of town. ;-)

I've found an old family picture with this piece in the background. The picture is from my 2nd great grandfather's house and dates from 1853-1924. I suppose I can assume the piece was made sometime before 1924. I'm still going through pictures and researching to see if I can find it in my 3rd great grandparents house. It's pretty amazing looking at all the details of very old photos. :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Can you post a scan of the photo? If it's attached to a card, please include a scan of that as well. We might be able to date a time period for the photo. At least it might help narrow something down. Photograph techniques and types changed a LOT between 1853-1924.

If you don't have a scanner please take close and clear photos of the photo.
