image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I know it's probably difficult to decipher. Looks like an F, possibly an O, and an A at the end. The only other clue is a sticker on the verso. It appears to be DI ??UREZZA?? This painting is nailed to the canvas frame. I may not get much help with this one.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like this one a lot! Sorry I can't help right now. I may have more time later.

I like this one a lot too. I believe it to be a fantasy painting and not a real place. At least some of the brush strokes are typical of "Anderson / Ross" style - quickly done. Are the words on the label on the back: Italian?

I do believe the words are Italian. Unfortunately, the rest of the sticker is worn and I can't read the rest of the label.

Please put the dimensions of the paintings you try to id.

If this is small, I'd guess it to be a tourist piece.

That's what I'm forgetting. It's not a small painting. It's quite large. If I had the estimate without measuring it right now, 24 inches or more by 40 inches, give or take.

Yes that's a bit large for a tourist piece. It's very attractive, albeit quickly painted.

Does anyone here have "photoshop" or some "art" program to better highlight the name?

When I first seen the painting at a yard sale, I knew I wanted it. Thank you for the comment on the painting. I'll try to get a better pic of the sig later today. I don't plan on selling it, therefore I'll tell the price at which I bought it, $5. I didn't know much about painting then but I did see how fluent and smooth the brush strokes were.

At that size and being a European import, it is likely a dept. store sofa painting. Does it have a frame? Might help to date it.

It was not framed when I bought it. I know the pictures don't show the fine details of this painting but I don't believe this is a sofa painting. Just going out on a limb, why would you consider it a sofa painting just based off the size and origin? Aren't there original paintings that are made at about same size or larger?

It's 24 x 46.5 inches. I took a better pic of the sig. Notice how thick the oil is too?

The subject and execution is rather formulaic. I can show you thousands of paintings with trees on either side and water down the middle. The foliage done with repetitive brush strokes, as antidiem indicated above, is not an indicator of fine art. Doesn't mean that it wasn't painted by a real artist but done for commercial consumption rather than artistic expression. If from Italy, this lends more credence to the theory. Vast amounts of art came from Italy post-WWII to grace American walls. Was hoping to see a frame to get an idea of age. However, that tan linen-like canvas is indicative of European paintings from the period.

I like this new expression, "formula" paintings, rather than "production line" or "factory" paintings. The oil is thick because some of the base coating appears to have been built up by a pallet knife - typical to the Anderson / Ross style of painting. It also appears it may have extra gel medium (or oil) to give the paint more "body" at a slightly lesser cost. Yes it was painted extremely well for what it is.

I don't know if this helps but I contacted an art museum in Italy and they looked at a pic of the sticker on the verso. They advised me that the sticker appears to be one that is applied as a piece of art is going through Customs, after it's been approved through their Fine Arts Inspection Department.

Since the sticker is partly under the frame, I'd say the frame is a later addition. You could take it out and see if there's any further information.

There's no frame with this painting. That's the framing for the canvas itself.

You mean the canvas is stretched over this? Can you show an edge?

The canvas is stretched over this. Here's a picture if the edge. If you want one of the verso, you'll have to wait till Sunday.
