In fact it is not Roman, nor gold.
It is a large 60cm resin, gilded or painted stautuete showing Indian or Thai ladies in a sense of glamour and undress.

Should be simple, what is missing here from the holder?

Any idea also on the actual item?

    Thanks again x

I think the subjects are Classical Greco-Roman mythology in nature, not Indian or Thai. If the figure on the right is holding a basket of apples, then perhaps she's meant to be Pomona. Is there an aperture in the device they're holding? Doesn't look terribly old. Could/would you post a photograph of the base? And it is unmarked?

Can you tell what is in the right hand of the other figure? If it is grain, the whole may add up to an allegorical theme of abundance/plenty. I don't see a story here. Pomona is normally paired with Vertumnus, either in the guise of an old lady or as a handsome young man. I doubt the modeler had anyone specific in mind.

My only thought is that it is made to hold a small candle.

I think you're right. Just generic Classical-esque figures. The other figure appears to be holding the train of her gown.

Debora your correct the other is holding her gwon.
Very Risque piece, I do like it.
    Base is only felt.

I don't think they're very old. They've been artificially aged. Curious as to what others think.

Try Veronese as a maker. 1980s/90s ish. Bronzed resin.

    How do you do that?!!!
Surely it was also a clock? It's the same base.

I was thinking lamp, but it could have been a clock. Not old no matter what.

Have you found anything that identifies the maker of these rather eccentric clocks?

I'm finding lots of pictures of the Emile Bruchon swinging clock, not the one we're looking for:

Really great, I am always amazed at how members can find these items. Is it a reasearch trick or just expert awareness?
