From the reseller's treasurers are these two glass pieces - a vase and a ewer (?) or small pitcher. They are obviously hand blown, because they both have polished pontil scars. Unlike the small, more rounded, hobnails that I am more familiar with, these are larger and more pointed. I am wondering if they are an older style or maybe they are just a variation. I would appreciate some thoughts about this. It has been useless to search for large hobnails as Google just dumps thousands of Fenton pieces. I believe they are from the same time period, if not the same source. They are close to the same height at around 7 1/2 inches. Does anyone know anything about these? Try the term prunts, (watch spellcheck doesn’t change to print)

You're right! Not molded - applied. I didn't realize this. Thankyou so much.

They certainly made items in that style but I can't see any references to jugs having had a quick flick through, so could be a different factory.

Sorry, Cherryhill doesn't have a clue. Not sure what the reference to "prunts" is though, prunts are generally small applied bits of glass, often somewhat molded, but not always. Occasionally, prunts are used to 'finish' pontil scars.

I am grateful you took a look. So these large, pointed hobnails were not applied but part of the mold. I thought they looked applied as they are asymmetrical. Well I learned a new word. I will be able to impress my friends with it, if it comes up in conversation. :D

If I remember right, there were 2 or 3 companies who made these spikey hobs but my brain can't pull up the name right now. Maybe @TallCakes can help.

Thanks for looking. It is still a mystery. They seemed oddly old.

my first thoughts would have been Empoli/Italy as well. However, I did find one very similar with a Fenton sticker (no image of the bottom); which I suppose is possible but not with that rough pontil. Also found some with handmade Italy Florentine stickers but unable to track those google images to anything useful. Even the ones listed as Empoli didn't seem to have clear images of the bottoms.

I appreciate you looking at these piece. I agree that it is the same pitcher, but the placement of that sticker seems very suspicious to me. Not that I know much about Fenton, but I agree, the pieces I have are all polished on the bottom. You did a lot better than I did. I only found a couple of pieces. I'll try heavy hobnail. Thank you.
