    Hello all,

I treated myself to this yesterday, and would be grateful for any information! I'm unsure of the age, and it has no markings/labels etc. It's also quite large - 1.6m x 1.6m! The detailing seems to be hand cut marquetry. I paid about $280.

I know. My wife was surprisingly easy to placate, so I guess she loves it as much as I do. The only slight issue I have is that it won't fit on top of our fireplaces without hitting the ceiling. It's actually taller than my wife when it's on the ground!

Either way, I think I've done well for less than $300!

THAT! is lovely............and judging by the decoration and forms I would date it to the Edwardian era (Gilded age if you are in the USA, Belle Epoch if in Europe)

It could have come off a serving sideboard.
This one is 10 feet tall in total, I know its not the same but its a similar idea.

Great suggestions, thank you for those.

The challenge will be finding something it can sit on appropriately. My next job is to give it a proper clean and wax!

I agree Ewardian, and very pretty. I'd love to see what the bottom half looked like.

Google "antique overmantle mirror" and you will see a good supply of images. When I was in the trade in the UK, we always called them overmantle mirrors.

Sorry, I see in your title you called it an overmantle mirror.

I am having a "stupid day today" I went to the shops for groceries and had to brave a large supermarket in Chartres with all the madness and mayhem of christmas shopping occuring. It frazzled my brain. The only quiet aisle was the longish bio foods aisle, it was a haven of peace and tranquility with no shoppers in it.
