10.25 inches tall, 8 inches wide, 4.5 inches deep.
Handpainted, appears to be porcelain. 19th century probably.

No makers marks but a very distinctive shape

Any ideas on origin, date and maker would be really welcome

    Hi,
Looks like a hobbyist painted piece. Turn of the century people would buy white blanks and paint on them.

It is a cache pot. Limoges did this shape

Just about every Limoges cache pot I've ever seen was done by Guerin and marked Guerin even if hobbyist painted. The black trim is unusual--is it original?

I have had few unmarked cache pots, they sell fairly well even unmarked. i agree the black is unusual and so is the pointed feet didn't see that the first time. Maybe on the new side of vintage.

Please don't say Limoges did this shape. Limoges was not a company.

okay. I didn't say it was a company. I have a book called Limoges with many companies listed in it. not sure how you want me to refer to the shape that many of them used?

    Thanks for all the replies.

This still looks to me like a late 19th century piece, which would tie in with it being a purchased blank painted by an artist/hobbyist. Annoying that it isn't signed or dated

I think it is original but cannot be certain

    Hi,
The black trim is all the more likely painted by a hobbyist.

You did say "Limoges made this shape" which does IMHO sound like Limoge was the maker, not the area where it was made. Many people new to this type of item don't realize Limoge is a region of France.

"Several makers from Limoges made this shape" would be clearer and not imply "Limoge" as a maker.

Yes, I wasn't clear. But the correction could of been kinder.

Eh, if one is going to fault someone else's phrasing, they might consider spelling 'Limoges' correctly in their own post...
