It belongs to a friend, who was told it was from the 1940's when she got it. An image search shows many near-identical in size an' color, some new. It is well made, with good detail, but the edges of the gold, silver & copper areas offer no real clue about what it is really made of, or how. It is 19" in diameter, an inch thick, an' weighs 25 pounds. That works out to ~.28 pounds (roughly 4 1/2 ounces) per cubic inch, ...pretty dense.

Overall a pretty striking an' attractive piece, but I don't see that much age in it. I offer it for your comments to fulfill a promise to her, an' hope there will be a sweet surprise in your responses. Thanks for lookin'!

Metal, wood, resin, or composite? Can you tell that at least? Doesn’t look old at first glance.

They would probably use flat head screws in 40’s.

Too heavy for wood. My guess is resin impregnated with powdered metal, but it is hard to tell without doing minor damage. Phillips screws were patented in 1935, so could have been available post-war.

I'm very doubtful that's very old.

    I'd be thinking more 80s than 40s.

I offer a composition of copper, aluminum and brass. I agree probably 80's. I like the piece.

as nice a casting as I've seen........ but I don't see much age...!

Just figured flat heads were more likely in 40’s. Didn’t say Philips heads weren’t an option at all at the time. I didn’t actually know when they were patented though so that’s a good thing to know.

It is quite the statement piece at 19”! In my experience these sell well no matter the size or composition. A good design is a good design, people dig them.

Something stylistically similar I found, Mexico, but hand hammered copper, 27 inches and pretty heavy at 8 lbs. 1960s I believe.
