image.jpg image.jpg I got this about two months ago. It's the first drip painting that I've collected. I live next to a major art academy and I'm supposing that this might be a piece from a student. I try to snatch up any original art I see that's in good quility and subject, for I don't know if the artist might become famous one day. I'm wondering if this might be the signature.

I hate it when artists put blobs for signatures. Kind of looks like K H W...whatever.

That's what I was thinking also about the signature. I may contact the art academy here and see if someone might know anything or I may just leave it alone.

Wouldn't mind creative signatures on the front of art if the artist would plainly write their name on the back. Not sure why artists want their ownership of the work to be so obscure. Maybe it has something to do with self doubt and not being totally satisfied with what they produce?

I was seeing the same as you on the signature. It's a pain in the rear.

It could possibly be that reason or that they were in "mood" while creating the piece and it carried on to the signature.

Amando, that signature is so distinct, even if it isn't legible, I think you may be able to find out who the artist is.

I know an artist who hates to sign his work. He doesn't want his work to be sold for the decorating value or the collecting value, only for the merit of his subject and ability.

I told him he was insane because collectors collect for all types of reasons including investment and he was losing sales because he refused to sign. I convinced him to at least sign the reverse side. He is listed now and without the signatures, that would never have happened.

Amando, if haven't watched it already, I think you would enjoy the movie Herb and Dorothy about Herb and Dorothy Vogel. She was a secretary and he worked at the Post Office. They amassed one of the largest contemporary art collections and it is considered one of the most important contemporary art collections in the world.

I love watching documentaries over art and the masses that collect them. I love watching the show "Fake or Forgories". I collect a little of everything but art is my passion. There's something about having a piece of someone's feelings on canvas or board. No matter how terrible it looks, I enjoy all paintings. Everyone loves a pic if an "ugly" baby, no matter how hard they try to hide it. I see art as that persons "baby". They created it with every fiber of passion that they had.i hope that makes sense.

I don't know how many I'll end up with but being in my mid 30s, hopefully I have another 30 plus years of picking up a few pieces every month. My wife is going to strangle me.

It is a documentary about a guy that convinced Banksy to let him follow him while he did his street art. The film maker then decides to make his own art and has a massive show. Banksy realizes the guy didn't know what he was doing with the film and ended up taking all the footage to make the film about his own street art. However, Banksy realizes that the story is not about him, it is about the guy that took the film. It really is a crazy story and how people get caught up with a name, the frenzy of what's hot and marketing. You can see it on Netflix.

Do you think the signature might be Asian?

I'm not sure. It looks like it could possibly be. I did contact SCAD but they said i would have to take it to an appraiser.
