    Hi all,

A friend sent me some photos of a tablecloth with matching napkins she has and wanted any info I could give her. Thinking maybe 1940's? Wasn't sure what keywords to use to search for similar. If anyone can find similar out there, that would be so helpful! Would love to send her a comparable one that was for sale. Thanks for taking a look.

    Hi,
Looks like a Turkish one to me.

Thanks for taking a look, Greg. I'm not seeing any others even remotely like this on Ebay or Google. Not sure what keywords to use.

Friend wants my advice on "where to sell this?" She has done some selling on Ebay, but I was trying to research something similar to give her a sense of value, not sure where to begin. Anyone have thoughts on age? Does it look machine made? My guess is that value isn't huge, but have to say this particular friend (an artist) does have an incredible eye in general (you should see her 1920's home in Chicago -amazing!) If you look back at the first photo you can see that the cloth in its entirety looks kind of impressive, so I don't want to underestimate anything. Could definitely be Turkish, or kind of looks like a tablecloth that you'd see in the movie Casablanca or something. ALL thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

Well, it's not really "lace." The design is made with cutwork and machine embroidery-type stitching. The only "sort of" lace is in the openings and looks like netting. Maybe use some of those terms to surface others?

Super helpful keywords, Bakers. Thank you! Starting to get somewhere. I've been googling, and checking Ebay. Nothing with a Turkish or Moroccan theme, but seeing more that look like this in general. Was surprised that the top selling cutwork embroidery tablecloth under "sold" went for $1,400.

Thoughts on age? Also would I call this "Madeira"?

Does it look like it was ever used?

I really don't know a whole lot about this kind of thing, but I would think post WWII when people started traveling again. My parents took a European tour in the 80's sponsored by the alumni association of his college. Brought back all kinds of stuff, including a table cloth and napkin set done in the same manner, although not middle eastern motif.

I’m not even close to knowing anything about these, but here is my impression. Looking at the design, I’m seeing a couple boats, the open netting could represent water. In front of the buildings, I’m seeing netting which reminds me of the 3 wise men, but could be doors. Anyway I’m wondering if it could be Israel made. Possibly Jerusalem.
That’s just what I see. BWDIK

I bought a LOT of these types of linens during the 1960s in Curacao, Bermuda, Antigua, and Firenze, Italy - and the themes were all over the place, not specific to the local where they were being sold.

could be, Marghab is another word to us. Might be a silly question, but has she checked for a label?
Here is a site with a bunch of patterns - might find it there

    Hi,
I thought Turkey when I saw the crescent moons on top of some of the buildings.

Thanks to all who responded. Appreciate the keywords, estimates of origin and dates and link. I'll pass all of this on. Thank you so much. This one was completely out of my field.:happy::happy::happy:
