Am I correct in assuming this is Korean? The glazing on the pot is the reason I'm going that route. Measures 3-1/8"H x 4"M variable. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. cel7.jpg cel8.jpg

It could have been made anywhere, I think, and the signature looks like GZ to me. But I could be way off.

Korean and Japan produce some beautiful modern ceramics, but Im not sure I see these countries in this tea cup. The signature does look asian, but like AJ, it could just be the potters very stylish signature. Someone may be able to translate.

Ran across this site with Northern Song Longquan light green (淡青)glaze wares that have similar etched designs as on the one I have, thought I'd run it by yall see what you think. The site is (http://www.koh-antique.com/celadon/longquanmain.html) also, I put it under a black light and it flouresced crazing on the glaze, from the looks of it it has 2 glazes, a greenish one under a clear glaze with the crazing on the bottom green one. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. tumbler1.jpg tumbler2.jpg tumbler4.jpg tumbler3.jpg tumbler5.jpg tumbler7.jpg tumbler8.jpg tumbler9.jpg

Hi Mario, the height dimensions you gave seem too small for a brush pot, I would guess a teacup.

More than likely, but could it be that old?

Others will be along who will know better as I have not had a lot of experience with old Korean celadon, mostly Thai, but my feeling is that this is not old. More of a modern ceramic. It just doesn't have the style or look of aged celadon IMHO. Others will know more I'm sure.

No, I'm not saying its Korean, I'm posting to gather thoughts as to it being possibly Chinese Northern Song Dynasty era longqian ware. Real old.

    It is not Song.
I'm sorry Mario, I just don't see any similarity between antique Korean or Song dynasty wares, floral decorated, and yours, abstract (Modernist?) decorated.
Many Western potters of the 20th century used celadon and other Oriental type glazes as well, so that is another thing to consider.

Did you check out the site that I put on the thread, the decorations on one of the pictures (#11) are very similar to the ones that are on the cup that I have.

I checked it out, and just don't see this as Song dynasty celadon, sorry.
I have several Song pieces myself and none of them have that multitude of dark inclusions either. I do see many dark inclusions on 1960s-70s Western ceramics.
