    No, not from the Federal period.
    More likely a home shop project sometime in 20th century.

    My thoughts too. I've seen a few sugar boxes at estate auctions and I've always been surprised on how much they realized. Really cool but out of my budget!

    I thought sugar boxes had locks, as sugar was so valuable.
    Interesting little chest.
    It looks to be made from other pieces of furniture. Look at the 4 corners - chair legs?
    To me the top looks like a replacement.

    Probably more sentimental value than monetary.
    Still kinda cool.

    Yes, always!
    But these are miniatures so some liberties are taken, even if in period as they are not a "working" piece.
    Still, if you notice the miniature example at Case, builder managed to put a lock into drawer.
