    Hey guys,
Just curious what pattern this kayserzinn tray is. It's numbered 4042 but I'm not finding anything. I'm seeing very promising things for this particular name but want to get it right when listing it.[IMG] [IMG]

Jake, I find several #4042 items via a quick Google search. Nowhere did I find a name shown for the pattern. It seems to be referred to everywhere as Art Nouveau and/or simply floral in design.

Various entries show this as a design by Hugo Leven (1874-1956), the firm's main designer and artistic director until 1904.

I found 2 different #4042 items that were personalized, and both showed engraved dates of 1903. I would imagine that the 1903 date is probably very close to the date of production.

    Here are a few:

This is a “professionally polished” #4042 with what may be a too-early (???) assumed date of ~1894:

This is one of the items with the engraved 1903 date:

And this is the other one engraved 1903:

Finally, here's one on eBay France:

There's a bit of general info here:

    and here:

Again, I couldn't find an actual pattern name, and it is possible that there just wasn't one, but I don't know for sure.

Hi Jake! Very nice tray! Our modern assumption that every tableware design must have a "pattern name" was not shared by the designers and makers of the past. In fact, there was (and still is) much hollowware production that is only identified by the numbers. I wouldn't spend any more time trying to find a "name" for this lovely design. Focus on getting the best pictures you can and writing a thorough description.
