Hello. I picked this inkwell up at a local estate auction. I believe it to be a Kayserzinn art nouveau inkwell c.1900. I am having trouble with the metal. I know Kayserzinn was famous for thier pewter work so I dont know if this is bronzed pewter, copper, bronze, or ??. I have only found one other example online that matches this character and design but it was described as silver plated metal so that is definately not this. It is not marked. It measures 14" x 6" x 6". I would love to know your thoughts on this piece.

Gilded bronze is my best shot. That verdigris oxidation could also indicate brass, but the color of this seems too deeply brown for brass, to my eye.

Had the one at liveauctioneeers not been marked, I would have doubted the attribution to Kayser. Kayserzinn specifically implied pewter so not marked as such. I think yours just a different plated version. Would think brass plated with artificial applied patina. Base metal could be pewter but more likely pot metal.

any reason why this wouldn’t be marked?
