The IPBA (International Perfume Bottle Association) has decided to make its website available (except for the members directory) to the general public on January 1st & 2nd.

That includes the virtual museum which has photos of every kind of perfume bottle you could imagine from ancient to modern. There are also copies of advertisements & company catalogs.

There is also information about the annual perfume bottle auction held every year at their convention, the conventions themselves as well as the perfume bottle design competition held every year with photos of the winners from the last 8 years.

I have posted a copy of their announcement below.

Thank you so much for posting this, @bercrystal! I started going through my perfume bottle collection a couple of months ago and gave up because it was too time consuming trying to navigate 50 gazillion websites to identify one bottle. :banghead:

@KikoBlueEyes - I knew you would be excited!! ;):D:D:D

@sassafras - You can always post them here a few at a time if you can't find them on the website & I will do my best to help you out.:happy:

@Lizzie - Hopefully you can find them but if not like I said to sassafras you can post them here & I will do my best to help you out.:happy:

The virtual museum used to be part of the website that was available to anyone but they made it a members-only thing a few years back. It has also been upgraded to be a searchable fairly easy-to-use set-up.

The other thing you might check out if you have time is the Perfume Bottle Quarterly (PBQ) magazine. Over the last year, several of the members got together & scanned all of the past issues of this magazine (from 1988 to the present). The articles are mostly written by members of the organization & are quite informative.

I would love to get feedback from those of you who take advantage of this opportunity. Regardless if it's bad or good I will let the board know & maybe it is something that can improve the website.:happy:

Thanks again @bercrystal for the offer to post here and have you help identify, which I will be doing in the near future. I bought those lots of miniature perfume bottles which I showed in the finds thread recently and am working my way through them. Fortunately, a number of them had original labels which has helped and I am, at the moment, listing those. Eventually, I will get the "unlabeled".

By the way, to all, I have found Cleopatra's Boudoir a great resource for perfume makers history. It has a lot of old advertising and helps with dating the perfumes but not necessarily the bottles.

@Figtree3 - thank you so much for bumping up this thread.:happy::kiss:

I had wanted to do this today to remind everybody who might be interested but of course, I did not write myself a reminder on my calendar so the thought was long gone.:p:oops::bag::bag:

I had a thousand things to do today, however, I signed in to the site and went down a rabbit hole. It is a wonderful site. I think I may join. I learned a great deal and just enjoyed the exploring the museum. It was definitely worth putting off the chores I was supposed to be doing.

Thanks again for posting this @bercrystal. I've only spent 10 minutes in the virtual museum and have already identified several of my bottles. I'll definitely be getting a membership!

@sassafras & @Lizzie - If you decide to join please contact me first. I can get some type of credit depending on how many members you get to join if someone gives my name. I joined in 2001 & have never had a chance to sign up anybody new.:happy:

I am so glad you are enjoying the museum. :D:D

It has grown tremendously in the last few years. I have a few of my bottles there but I need to get more done.:p
