Found this 10-12k ring with a lot of stones. Thought it was plated but found stamp and tested as just below 14k. Trying to figure out the stones.
They could be glass (yes, I've had gold jewelry set with glass stones), they could be real stones or a mixture of both. It would be best to take it to be tested, IDing stones from a photo is, at best, just a guessing game
It could easily be a mushel - some real, some simulated, some glass. This may well have been what's called a "mother's ring" and those often were. I'd guess amethyst, citrine, garnet and Gold-only-knows. A jeweler with a gem tester might sort it out.
What a great name for it, and agreed, we often see this type of ring and they are usually a complete mix, I suspect some were often made with whatever the jeweller had lying around. They are also a favourite of the tv companies (QVC etc) but they have identifying marks - these are usually a mix of semi precious and lab grown stones.
I suspect WWII may have been the origin of those rings. You couldn't buy new stones and had to work with whatever came handy. It made for a pretty look so they kept doing it later.
I think this ring is from Thailand, and dates WWII or later, like @evelyb30 said. Lots of soldiers brought them home as gifts. I have several with this same spoke-like work underneath. They are usually gold, of varying karat.
