Really can't tell if recent, vintage or older. The clay and the foot look a bit different from what I've seen. These type of wares are hard to research. There are so many different type of techniques, glazes, kilns etc...
    Any thoughts?

You don't say how large but if somewhat small, I'd guess student art.

May have a home-made glaze applied.

About 4" tall. Why a student work? I don't see a problem being Japanese gaiwan.

I don't speak or read Japanese. Those seems to be museum pieces but they don't show the bases. Will see if I can understand something with google translation.

Why student art? --Just from the way it is made, whether it is Japanese or not..

Could be Japanese student but in general their pottery is quite different from the Western ones. The tea bowls could be free formed and look crooked, sagged, with what may appear to be sloppy glaze, with quite irregular foot rims etc and still be old and made by a famous artist.

I don't know if it's that easy to tell student or master potter.

Kardinal, it's not easy to tell and after looking at y'all's research here, I'm inclined to retract my earlier statement and agree with you.

Different opinions are always good so we can get a better discussion.
I know nobody that can help with this type of ceramics. Japanese porcelain is a different story but with this one, I'll have to chexk some of the websites that offer similar pieces and maybe ask there.
