Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Recently I bought this little pot at a sale of Japanese antiques and art. The dealer told me it is Oribe pottery. I was not familiar with that, but have looked a lot online and see that it is. Don't know how old it is, but it is pretty grimy/dirty. The bottom is unglazed.
    What would be a safe way to clean this pot? 20230521_173514.jpg 20230521_173452.jpg 20230521_173445.jpg 20230521_173438.jpg 20230521_173313.jpg 20230521_173302.jpg

When taking photos I found a tiny impressed mark near the bottom, in the unglazed part. Are these pictures clear enough to read the mark? If not I will try again.

Sweet! Others may have different methods, but I would just use warm water and mild dish soap. If there are nooks and crannies, a soft toothbrush should do the trick.

Thank you, @kentworld ! I've sometimes washed modern pottery in a dishwasher, but didn't want to try it with this one.

I had an older piece (not Chinese) that had a lot of crazing on it, I briefly submerged it in water to clean it, and that was a big mistake. Suddenly the crazing was a lot more noticeable.

I don't know if that is anything to worry about here, maybe others will have thoughts.

    Sounds like caution is advisable.

Just bumping this up. Can anybody read the impressed mark?
If not clear enough I can try to get a better photo.

You could try a pencil rubbing, or if you can decipher with your eyes or magnifying glass, you could copy the mark with pen and paper and post here.

Also, the dishwasher is OK for most recent china, but it's not kind to older china and patterns will deteriorate with constant dishwashing. Also, it will wear off silver and gold rims, etc., so handwashing is better. The dishwasher soap is a bit abrasive.

Giving this one more try, as I'm still trying to identify the potter's mark on this piece. I think this photo is clearer than the others, but still a bit blurry. I don't think that my trying to draw it will help much. If only I understood the Japanese alphabets...Is this Kanji? It doesn't look at all like other Japanese scripts that I looked at.
