Anybody recognize this writing? Was probably bought over in Japan.

    Can we see the front?

It would be good to see all of the bottom too, a side view wouldn't hurt! ;)

Yes there is more information there. At this point, if I had to guess, I would guess that this is a brand new Asian bowl. I cannot see the entire bottom to see any wear or the color of the raw clay or if there is no raw clay showing and only glaze. It does not look old in any way from your one photo.

that you can see, but maybe the way it's made can help someone here pinpoint it...

Looks newer than new from the side view, not even vintage, very little wear on the gold rim and the rest of the bowl is completely unworn gold details. The mark on the bottom appears to me to be very stylized and modern too.

Maybe they just weren't used very much? ;)

Do you know when they were brought over? 60s?

I want to say the mid-70's, but I would have to check w/ the seller

From the style and a few similarly marked pieces on Gotheborg.com, I think this is a Kutani and from the 60s-70s time frame. We have several members who are experienced in Japanese and Chinese wares and you should wait for their opinions.

Welcome goldwing I agree, generic Kutani mark 60s most likely.
    Pretty set!

Update: have talked w/ seller recently; we discovered that this set was prob'ly picked up in Japan in the 1940's ... it's the only time frame that makes sense for the family member that was over there.
