Was told this vase is a "commemoration of some sort of survey in 1935" Would anyone know what for? Has script. Stands 8 1/2" tall.

The text and style of decoration appear to be Chinese rather than Japanese.

2many, have googled a little. Would this have anything to do with Manchurian Emperor Pu Yi visit to Japan in April 1935?

Sorry, no idea. The design, with the sort of taotie mask, looked Chinese to me. And google translated the first column of text as Chinese, "National survey commemoration". I could not get it to recognize or translate the second column. As is often the case, something may be lost in the translation.

    Perhaps @Ce BCA can help.

Struggling with this one, some of the left column seems to be 調査記会, but doesn't make sense. Can't get the right column, either pic is too poor or there is something odd in the characters.

Agree that it appears to be Chinese rather than Japanese.

    It’s Chinese pre 1950

Interesting. Sometimes I will send pictures of an item over to Sotheby's to see if it is worth an auction. Most times they say no, but they want to send me to Catawiki with this vase. Must be worth something.
