Japanese Brass Strip; 24 Character Poem? Bamboo Reverse

    The brass strip measures ~3/4" wide, ~7" long, ~1/8" thick; weight is ~3 oz. The bamboo decor on the reverse is acid-etched using a resist; the characters on the obverse are hand-engraved.
    I thought I had shown this here in the past, but can find no history of such posting...might be my alleged memory, ya think?
    If any of you can illuminate the purpose of this piece, an'/or the message contained in those characters, I'll be very grateful for your help. All comments are welcome, of course. Thanks for lookin'!
    EDIT: This may be part of Leonard's booty, but I can't say for sure.

    No scale, so probably not any kind of ruler...but yeah, scroll weight, or page holder for a large book...perhaps?
