Not even sure where to start with this. A friend passed away, her husband had a few pieces of jewelry he wanted me to take a quick look at. Mostly I could ID the few things he showed me which were pretty straight forward, but I'm not so good with jade. (If this is in fact jade.) I suspected that might be a diamond on the clasp, tested it once home, and it is a diamond, 14K setting. If it is jade, I know there is a huge variety out there, does this look especially valuable? My photo doesn't show it well, but the beads are very subtly graduated from smaller to larger. Not even sure who to bring it to for an evaluation. I don't think our local jewelers would be good on this. With the necklace was also a jade (?) ring in a stamped 10K setting. Thoughts on either piece? Thanks!

I can’t offer suggestions (it looks of jade to me) but I’m sorry to hear of your friends passing.

I suspect the bead necklace is good quality jade. They wouldn't have wasted a 14K clasp with a diamond on sub par beads.

Agree that the ring is jade as well. Good color.

I'd find a jeweler with a GIA’s Graduate Gemologist rating.
Or find a good lapidary store

Is there a mark of some sort behind the 14k ? Those beads are stunning. To me(with zero knowledge on jewelry) they scream quality.

I would expect a good quality bead necklace to be knotted though.

I don't find this lack of knotting to be unusual.
Seems customary for pearls, but not necessarily other beads.

I'm spoiled from admiring the lovely jade sold by Gump's. Here's an example. $5,900 on silk thread with hand knotting.

I used photo shop and did an auto fix. Is this closer to the color or was photo shop way off? jade2_edited-1.jpg

Mill Cove, it looks like nice jade to me.

Debora, it looks beautiful with green silk thread knots! Love the oriental clasp too!

    Thanks all.

Color is not as light as the one Debora posted but a lighter than Mill Cove's photo-shopped version.

Really pretty close to how it looks in this photo. (At least on my screen.) Not a primary green, more gentle? Hard to describe.

And once I posted the photo, I noticed that mark, too Johnny. Seems like there is something written after the 14K. Will have to get a loupe out tomorrow.

It's a good idea to go to a good gem specialist IF I can find one. I had an appraisal done once at a jewelry store but it was $75, and honestly I didn't think it was that great of an appraisal. But may have to figure something out.

One thing about this, the way the beads are subtly graduated, you almost can't even see that they are getting bigger, if you looked at four beads back to back you wouldn't see any difference, but by the end the last bead is much bigger than the first.

Thank you for the condolence wishes about my friend as well. She was an amazing person and she is deeply missed.

I've jade beads that the other half bought me in Singapore some years ago. Very similar colour, not knotted. Gold clasp.

I am sorry about the loss of your friend, Lucille.
I agree, this is good jade on both the necklace and the ring. Not knotted does not necessarily mean lack of quality.
On the photos the crimpbead looks a different colour from the clasp, is that the same in real life?
