This dagger is 13 inch long
I think it is made of Jade. It is hand carved
    I believe it is Asian
Any help on identifying this item would be greatly appreciated
Such as age, origin, use, material etc.
    Thanks

Agree not jade. Could be stained resin.

Not a chance this is Jade, Serpentine perhaps.

the carving and designs are so poorly done , I'm not sure this even qualifies as a recent tourist item..... more like a school project !

Steve, it is a replica of a Chinese ringed dragon sword or knife. The carving on these is usually pretty basic, as it was on most antique ones.
The nephrite jade dragon swords were meant for ceremonial purposes, but as the others said, yours could be serpentine.
Once you know the stone, you can check ali baba and associated sites for the value. There are quite a lot out there, made of both jade and serpentine.

But back to the stone, is there any translucency on the thinner parts of the sword, like around the edges?
Could you please post a closeup of the stone?

...and if you have some spare time, i.e. for 50 episodes, The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber on YouTube is a good yarn about the most valuable dragon saber ever ...(don't forget to turn the English subtitles on though!)
