Jade carved monkey

    Is there a way of telling if this has any age or if was made recently?
    It tests as Jade on my gem tester. It’s pretty crudely done but I’d like to know if there are any clues to look for?. Approx 1 inch tall.
    Thanks for any advice :)

    Get a new gem tester, this is some kind of soapstone - jade does not scratch "white"

    It's very yellow for any prehnite I have seen. I agree that it is something soft like soapstone or one of the alabasters.

    Where it belongs. Crudely cut, no matter the stone.

    I'd have said serpentine or "new jade" right off the bat. It's carved to look old, but no old-time carver would have kept something this haphazard. They'd have junked it.
