Indian in appearance. Certainly meant to look like ivory, but the growth patterns are so pronounced, it gives me doubts. And if it's a fake, then I would guess Chinese meant to look like Indian ivory. As I do with most natural organic materials, suggest you try the tooth test. If it feels merely smooth, might be ivory; if it feels virtually glassy, have to think something artificial.

    India, and ivory I think.

The crudeness of the carving bothers me for a piece of genuine ivory. Also, the second side shown looks like a pair of lions? India doesn't have lions. This bracelet will have to prove itself to me.

You are just saying that to wind me up, right? Every person who pokes a hot needle into an antique should be stabbed with it at least once.

Well, I think everyone start leaning towards not being ivory and if that’s true it wont hurt to damage the “wannabe”.

Yeah, well, if you can't sell it as ivory, you can at least make money on it as faux if it isn't damaged. I've dealt in costume jewelry for years and some of it can be just as expensive, if not more so, than gold and silver these days.

Selling it as ivory would be a huge problem!

It's a post-WWII bracelet. It can't be sold on Eboo regardless of age, and that one has me scratching my head. It looks like ivory but those metal bits are "white brass". Normally you wouldn't put cheap metal on ivory...?????

Depending on where you are, selling ivory is banned. Ebay and other online selling sites will not let you sell it.

You can sell it here in CT, but it has to have all kinds of documentation that it's antique. Otherwise no go. You can give it away with no problem, but not sell it.

It does, the Asian lion, also called the Indian or Persian lion. They are endangered now and mostly live in a reserve in NW India. They used to live in a large area from Greece to northern India, but humans and lions.....
