Hello everyone. Apologies, I'm sure there have been many questions about bone, ivory and celluloid here! I have been doing my research and even looked under black light as a previous thread suggested. I just wanted to get your opinion on this floral brooch and floral dress clip (?) as I don't want to try and sell anything illegal! I have ruled out celluloid I think, but I am leaning towards ivory for the brooch and bone for the dress clip? I am guessing they are both from around the 1930s. Any input appreciated, thank you

    I concur with your identification!
Flower is ivory (thin cracks, color and lustre) and clip is bone (blood vessels traces as tiny black flecks):cyclops::)
For the era, 1930s for the clip is possible, but I feel the flower brooch is later, rather 1960s.

Thank you! I wasn't sure about the age of the brooch, I find it hard to tell with the little safety clasp. Appreciate the help!

I agree with my esteemed colleague: pin is ivory; clip is bone. I don't have strong opinions on the age. Clip belongs to the period when dress clips were a thing. Think it's possible pin is 50s, but can in no way rule out 60s.

Thanks a lot! The patent number on the clip is from 1933, although I know that doesn't necessarily mean that it's that old. As for the pin, I hadn't a clue :)

I will check! Interesting that the first link doesn't list the material that it's made from. The second does list as ivory, isn't it illegal to sell ivory or can vintage be sold? Confused!

Does one of them have it wrong? Did idea spread? Flower of Hawaii; gold of the Yukon. Yukon guy would have to prove woolly mammoth ivory to me. S/he also describes the pin as a pendant.

On the other hand, I can't find another flower like this one attributed to Ming's, who do a plumeria design that does not look like this. Their work seems to be signed. Saw no gold nuggets among their pieces. Think SoCal is wrong. Which does not mean Vancouver is right.

How did you find these 2 others so quickly?

Most natural gold nuggets are usually between 85 percent and 95 percent gold.

That originally put me off too. Was ready to declare fake, but spent some time looking at pix of known ivory pieces & decided it was possible, if not usual.

DizzyDaff Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.

Could these possibly be bakelite or celluiod?
