This plate measures 8.25" diameter. Is it Majolica? Does anyone know the mark "GP" ?

I am not certain but a possibility is Ceramiche GP in Deruta (see link). The family is still active today and you should be able to contact them. If they confirm that this is their mark then it was almost certainly produced by the technique of maioliche (Italian spelling) or majolica in English. If however the plate wasn't produced by Gialletti & Pimpinelli then it most likely is not maioliche. The term majolica refers to the process of decorating. That process is labor intensive and far more expensive than the usual process of decorating because it requires several firings. This plate does not appear to be maioliche because the design is too simple and the colors too dull in comparison to the tin glazing usually found on true majolica pieces.
