Italian Majolica two handled hand painted floor vase

Hi everyone

Found this large handpainted vase in a charity shop. It was reasonable due to the crack
I have tried to deciper the impressed mark....but its just not clear enough. Perhaps someone will spot a tell tale sign as to where and whom?

The impressed Mark looks more like a thumb print

It looks like somebody has purposely caused that damage around the painted mark to hide what was there ?

Thought wow at first, but looking closely thinking might be a reproduction of something else

Others will know more

 

I was going to say thumb print too. I don’t think you will find the maker. Here is something similar. The seller described them as Urbino style c1850. The painted scenes in these are far more typically Italian

Thank you both for your help. I had a feeling that the mark would be untraceable. The painting is not that well done...rather rush tourist stuff....i guess. Decorative thats the only saving grace. Does not sound too kind but thats what it is.

 

Your mark is shown on page 62 of the book 'Italian Pottery Marks: From Cantagalli to Fornasetti' by the late Walter Del Pellegrino. It's Pietro Melandri with business partner Umberto Focaccia, Faenza, Italy, circa 1922-1931.

The written part of the mark appears to have been intentionally damaged. probably to sell it as an antique piece.

 

But that long nasty crack running through it doesn't help it either.........

 

Yes. They’ve removed the Made in Italy and Florence
