    No manufacturer marks?

Given the usual size of the clamp backs, the badge itself looks more like a lapel pin than a "badge." In case I have misjudged the dimensions - how big is it?

Sorry to have kept you waiting.
I do not see any manuf. marks.
It seems to me that upper part has been silverplated.
I took the safety clips off so you can see better and you can see that one clip has 2x4 stars and other has 2x3 stars.
On the lower pin rim I think I can read(it is so hardly readable that it may be just my imagination) "missouri".
    Size is 3/4 x 4/4 inch

Teeny tiny! Definitely a lapel pin.

And that looks like Roman numerals on the lower rim. For a date?

    What's a lapel pin?
If its roman numbers I cannot read it, not even with magnifying glass...

The Roman numerals should stand for 1941 (the year in which the MP corps was established.)

A lapel pin is worn on the "lapel" of a man's suit jacket. It is not an official "badge" to be worn with your uniform.

And you can buy these on Amazon for about $10 or less.

Well it has far too many roman numerals to say 1941.

I agree, it does have too many. Looks to me (but don't count on it) like it says MDCCLXXVIII - which would be 1778.

    1941 = MCMXLI

I agree. On zoom in and clearing it up a bit, believe I can make the Roman numerals for 1973, MCMLXXIII.

Nope, we are both wrong. It is MDCCLXXIII for 1773. Possibly for the founding of military police during the Revolution.

Edit: Wiki... says the Military Police Corp officially established 1941, but in the next paragraph says:

"The Military Police Corps traces its lineage and history back to the American Revolution. General George Washington requested that the staff position of Provost Marshal be created to deal with disciplinary issues."

I'm confused, Susan. Did you mouse over the picture on that listing? It's clearly MDCCLXXVIII, 1778. At least on my screen. ;)

Ohhhh.... dumb me, Sue, this isn't my week for math and that includes reading Roman numerals. You are so right. There definitely is a "V" before the "III." That "V" is very very very obvious in the first pic on that ebay link in my message #14.

When I wrote message #14 I saw Makanudo replies with 1941s, but only saw your message #9 with 1941. For some reason my eyes didn't pick up your message #11 with 1778.

Okay, I'm calling it a day and will rest this weary brain, eyes, etc... Hopefully tomorrow the brain, eyes, etc... will be sharper. I'm blaming it on the miserable wet chilly weather we have had for the last 4 days that has played havoc with my sinuses and "achy breaky" lower back.

I took my magnifier again and I still see MDCD at the begininng. So 1978 seems to be the year.
    Maybe it is not authentic!!?

    It is not military issue

It was made for an old duffer to wear at veteran's gatherings
