Is this photo cut down the middle or supposed to be that way?

I think? it dates to the teen's. The size of the photo is 6 7/8" x 5".
It has a cut down the middle and is taped on the reverse side. Was it made this way or did someone cut it? Thanks for your time.

Tyledom, can't help with your question but I really like the photo.

I enlarged the photo of the people and wonder if you can read what is printed on the side of the large box to the left of the photo?

Here's what I made out. Am I right?

How old does the tape look? It cut sure is even.

The image looks like an advertisement for the canning equipment.

Looks like that company had supplies for/did "hot water canning."

That cut sure is even. I think pages in a pamphlet - the middle of the pamphlet where pages are attached. I have seen many pamphlets when opened in the very middle have a picture that extends on to the 2 facing pages.

I like the idea of it being an advertisement for canning equipment or possibly from an agricultural pamphlet?

That idea about pamphlet or brochure was just occurring to me when you posted, Susan!

Here is an article in a 1921 County Agent's Magazine about canning, specifically tomatoes. It has info plus a pic ad of a 1915 El-Flo Canner by the El-Flo Supply Co. of Hickory, NC.

The article is the left hand column titled "History of my Third Year in Canning Club Work" by Ethel Walls.

    https://books.google.com/books?id=JBtIAAAAYAAJ&pg=RA4-PA38&lpg=RA4-PA38&dq=EL-Flo+canning&source=bl&ots=5Yh5U3LFmT&sig=XvDsvbm2u8aGJ21VTgktJtOG_xc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=v-FIVZ_oHIyhgwSLpYH4DA&ved=0CB8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=EL-Flo canning&f=false

and another ad for the El-Flo by the Home Canning Mfg., Co. This one is in 1913 issue of Southern Planter, p. 610. Very bottom of the right hand column. Seems some time between 1913 and 1921 the the name of the manufacturer of the El Flo Canner changed from Home Canning Mfg, Co. To El Flo Supply Co. Note both companies were located in Hickory, NC.

Wow, thanks so much everyone! Yourturntoloveit, bakersgma and Susan.:)
Yourturntoloveit, I'm sorry I didn't answer quicker, yes that is exactly what it reads.
I can't really tell how old the tape is?
The pamphlet idea is really good, but I'm not sure because the paper is flat on the back side but sort of glossy on the front side and the image area has the old metallic look that I see on those old RPPC's, when you hold them at certain angles. Do you know what I'm talking about?
    Thanks again everyone.

Gelatin prints do that. I'm guessing this is 1920s, ground zero for gelatin prints. My guess is the "cut" is the old fold line and the paper just plain let go due to old age. Someone taped it because they wanted the image for whatever reason. The tape looks later rather than earlier; older tapes were narrow. I'm guessing 1970s or later.

Thanks so much kingofthings and evelyb.:) Much appreciated.
I just didn't know if there were some old photo processes that didn't take all on 1 sheet of paper and had to be split into 2 depending on the size.
    Thanks everyone.
