Is this metal duck a ...hood ornament?

Any thoughts on what this was intended for? The base seemed different than other hood ornaments I looked up, I'm not an expert at all on this kind of thing. It is solid metal and heavy. All ideas appreciated. Thanks!

It could be. It's not well made and so may be a 'fantasy' item.

Looks like painted or lightly plated pot metal. I doubt that would hold up to rain and snow as a hood ornament.

How about an indoor flagpole topper-thingie? Maybe a "fantasy" item for a club or school's flag? The Mighty Mallards or such.

Possible though that would likely have a center bolt or threaded bolt hole.
Two screws/bolts keep this from rotating.

Oh yes and still could be an option like those.

Thanks everyone. I know I looked up "duck hood ornament" before posting and all I could find under google images were those angry tough looking ducks, lol!

There are some other types on eBay where it looks like the person took the photos from as far away as Ur...well...Pluto. ;)

I wonder if he wasn't supposed to be bolted to a piece of marble or wood for a book end.
I did a quick search in images of chrome duck bookend, but didn't find a match.

    It's possible.
I do find it odd that the mounting holes are countersunk.
If a bookend then it would just be decoration on the base and then would need only one bolt.
It could also be for a trophy but it seems it may be too large for that though it's so unfinished it could be exactly this.
No way a car guy, except a 'rat rodder' would put that on their car.

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused on this. It has a bit of vintage (50's?) look to me, the countersunk holes were troubling as well. Probably not for a car, but then what? Maybe a trophy as was mentioned. Thanks.

Even then those are not needed for a trophy.
