Using Google Image search I found 3 of similar technique on eBay with prices from $18-500 and various ID guesses. It is signed "JR BC" and has a medium brown glaze interior. Surface is matte and colors are like washes, pastel, not saturated. Measures about 7.5" by 4 1/2".

    What do I have?TIA! Incised_pottery_jug_2.JPG

I not sure what it is, but I'm pretty sure it's not Native American.

Yeh, the material and the dual signatures don't seem like that style. THanks!

I wonder if that says J 12 instead of JR. This very similar vase seems like it might. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, it could say B L though it looks closer to B C to me too.

I meant BC, dunno why I said BL. @Roaring20s --I saw all three of those as I noted before I wrote the group. They don't really help narrow down the maker or value, do they! BC could be a locale, yes.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

when you get asking $ from 18 to 500....that means most of the sellers have no idea what they have...

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Idea I got from the search that @Roaring20s did... The results all say Mayan Aztec in the titles. One city in Central America that has initials BC is Belize City. And Mayans still live in that area. So, could that be what "B C" stands for?

I'm not saying this pottery was made by Mayans. Although, watching Mayans make pottery is one of the tourism draws in the area:

Perhaps this pottery was made for tourists, though, by somebody else.

    Just a theory.

Hmm, maybe Belize City is a clue. One person did call their eBay listing southwestern but they had no more an idea than the other two. Let me take a look at Belize City...I'll come right back. Nope, Belize and Belize City yielded no images similar to my vase nor the 3 on eBay. Well, I'll just sell it as a decorative piece...and it will be priced well below $500 (honestly, lower than $25). Thanks, all!

I'm a British Columbian, and I've never seen pottery like this here. However, who knows?
