Hello everyone - picked this up in a box lot. I was getting ready to put it in the Goodwill box but did some research and it may be worth listing. It is 6" high and about 5 1/4" across. As far as I can tell it's carved from one piece of wood. I know nothing about primitives so I'm not sure if I'm looking at an old piece or something more recent. The pictures have bleached the color out a bit - it's actually a bit darker. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
I am an expert by no means. I think if it was older it would not be in such round shape. I would think if it were older it would have shrunk at least into a more oval shape. The bottom looks like it was cut less than a year ago with all that graining showing. It looks like a nice shape but not old. I am just guessing, so I do not know for sure.

Unless it's just gotten a lot of wear, I was thinking it's at least somewhat old. But I don't have expertise here, either.

Hmmm...well I guess the only thing to do is put it up for auction, start it low, and see what happens! Thanks everyone for your opinions. Even though there's not a lot of agreement it did help me know how to proceed.

I remember back in the 70s a LOT of people were making all kinds of things out of wood, and I think this is one of those. We had a set of mugs my uncle made, they were so GROSS !
